Abu Dhabi Adventure Challenge 2010
The Abu Dhabi Adventure Challenge is a multi-sports race in teams of 4, racing over 6 consecutive days in the Emirate of Abu Dhabi. A team consists of 4 competitors (no support crew). Support is provided by the organization. Teams must be co-ed. Discover the unknown outdoors of the Emirates of Abu Dhabi on 10th to 15th December 2010.
There are four disciplines:
Sea-Kayaking
Progression using rigid sea-kayaks with sails supplied by the Organisation. Proper kayak paddles are compulsory (two blades). As the sea kayaks have a sail system, you can use the wind for traction, unless the wind strength is too high.
Desert Adventure Running and Cross Orienteering
Running over varying terrain following a compulsory signposted itinerary - Running over varying terrain searching for a maximum number of CPs within a time limit - Progression on foot through mountains.
Rope activities
Abseiling, Flying Fox, Cable Bridge, Fixed Rope Ascension, Climbing, Via Ferrata. Helmet and harness must be worn fastened.
Mountain-Biking
Progression on mountain bike over varying terrain. The competitors are responsible for resolving any mechanical problems. When using roads open to traffic, competitors must comply with the traffic laws of the host country. Helmets must be worn fastened.
Prize Money:
Overall ranking
A prize purse of 226 500 US$ is distributed amongst the 30 first teams in the overall ranking.
Rookie Awards
A further 10 000 US$, is distributed to 4 teams (2 500 US$ / team) hailing from 4 different regions (Europe - North & South America - Asia & Oceania - Middle East & Africa). A rookie team is by definition a team who has not participated in any of the previous editions of the Abu Dhabi Adventure Challenge.
