Hakkasan Restaurant, now in Abu Dhabi
Hakkasan at the Emirates Palace Hotel, Abu Dhabi, is situated within what is considered the most luxurious hotel within the UAE. Hakkasan is situated on the main entrance level of the hotel. The 165-cover restaurant features four private dining rooms, that seat from 6 to 12 guests, a 15m long bar offering a wide selection of signature cocktails. Anchoring the kitchen is Lee Kok Hua, from Hakkasan London, who has worked underneath Head chef Tong Chee Hwee for five years. He brings his own flair to the menu with new dishes that have been specifically designed for the Emirate market sitting alongside Hakkasan classics such as the Peking duck with Royal Beluga caviar; steamed dim sum platters; and grilled Wagyu beef with King soya sauce. The extensive beverage offering includes a wide array of teas from the best producers in Taiwan. Dragon Well green tea and High Mountain Oolong’s will be available to enjoy alongside the finest 50-year-old teas. All are brewed and served to precise instructions while observing detailed etiquette to deliver the best flavour. A range of freshly prepared non-alcoholic and alcoholic cocktails are on offer, designed to accompany the menu or to be enjoyed on their own as an aperitif. Head chef Tong Chee Hwee has been showered with accolades since he arrived from the Ritz Carlton hotel in Singapore to open Hakkasan, including the Carlton London Restaurant Award for best London Chef 2005. Hakkasan was also awarded ‘Oriental Restaurant of the Year 2003 and 2004) at the Carlton’s, the only restaurant in the history of the awards to win the same category two years in a row. A brainchild of the Hong Kong-born restaurateur Alan Yau, who was also the driving force behind the Wagamama chain of restaurant Hakkasan was recognized as the Best Newcomer at the Tatler Restaurant Awards in 2002, received the Best Design award at the Time Out Eating and Drinking Awards (2002) and Best Chinese Restaurant 2003 In 2004 Hakkasan was awarded a Michelin star, at that time and for four years following, the only Chinese restaurant to hold the rating. In addition Hakkasan has been a fixture on the annual The World’s 50 Best Restaurant list, voted for by an international panel of the world’s leading chefs, restaurateurs and critics, since 2004. Hakkasan wiis open daily from 6pm –2am for dinner, drinks and bar snacks, with last dinner orders taken at 12am.
