Pearls & Caviar
Pearls & Caviar is the ultimate new destination in dining and lounging at Qaryat Al Beri. The restaurant uses fresh Middle Eastern ingredients combined with Mediterranean tastes for a unique culinary experience. The Pearls Bar offers a tapas menu and hosts a live DJ until the early hours every evening.
Technically, this is two venues. Pearls is the all-white bar upstairs, which serves nifty cocktails, has DJs playing chill-out tunes, a view over the water and the Sheikh Zayed Mosque, and a glamorous crowd. Unfortunately, it also has a sporadic and rather provincial ‘no trainers’ policy, which detracts a little from the coolness of the place.
Caviar is the restaurant downstairs. It oozes a surfeit of chic, and offers a bolder decor than its many rival seafood restaurants. Outside, the decking area offers a dash of romance, and when food arrives, it could rightly be called elegant. The soft shell crab cradles a tender white meat; beside it, two slivers of carrot, battered in a tempura saltier than a sailor’s vocabulary, lie ready to dip in a glass vial of sauce, and a slab of potenta balances the kick of the chilli jam. The hammour, fattoush and caper berries arrives with a flourish and offers a sharp citrus bite. Desserts are decadent.
