Emirates Photography Competition Focuses On National Talents
Abu Dhabi’s contest aims to develop photographic movement in United Arab Emirates.
The Abu Dhabi Authority for Culture and Heritage (ADACH) launched the fifth season of Emirates Photography Competition under the patronage of the International Federation of Photography Art (FIAP).
The competition aims to develop the photographic movement in the United Arab Emirates by stimulating and attracting the largest possible number of photographers focusing on new talents and support the professionals, through specialized workshops, gatherings, interactive seminars and organizing personal and collective exhibitions inside and outside the country. Also the competition is working on collecting art works and displays them in all possible ways.
The competition is expecting to receiving outstanding works from various schools and techniques from the region, such as installation works, Panorama, positive and negative slides, negatives, digital images, modern technical arts, and images from different sizes that applied to the professional standards of FIAP.
“Through our strategic plan we are seeking to make Abu Dhabi a hub for art and culture as we believe that arts and creativity are shared human interest of all times and places," said Abdullah Al Amiri, Director of Culture and Arts Department in ADACH.
"And because images are able to create communication links between nations, the competition is open for all photographers all over the world,” he added.
In a step to attract national talents and developing them in various fields, the competition have allocated a special category in its fifth session for Emirati emerging photographers aged between 16 and 21-year-old.
Also the competition allocated for the first time a special prize awarded for the best three posts collective associations and clubs to encourage global imaging role played by these forums and technical communities in support of the cultural movement of the photographic image.
Badr Nomani, Director of the competition said “each year the competition chooses a main theme that urges photographers to work on untapped aspects in addition to four other themes”
The competition celebrates in its fifth session one of the most important Arab symbol in optics, physics ,engineering, astronomy and philosophy, the scientist and philosopher, Hassan Ibn Al-Haytham Al Basari (965 – 1038) due to his inventions that represent the importance of light since and optics, which lead to inventing the camera.
The fifth season main theme is inspired by one of Al Basari’s titles (Prince of Light). Other themes are general such as: images of nature, Portraits, journalist photo, silent nature and abstraction.
