VETI, Abu Dhabi
Vocational education and training (VET), prepares learners for careers that are based in manual or practical activities, related to a specific occupation or vocation. The learner directly develops expertise in a particular vocation.
Vocational education can be recognised in terms of recognition of prior learning and partial academic credit towards tertiary education.
As the labour market has become more specialised and economies demand higher levels of skill, governments and businesses are increasingly investing in the future of vocational education.
Vocational education includes a diversity of occupations including retail, information technology, business, travel and tourism, hotel management, hospitality, finance, property, paralegal, environment, health and safety, design, funeral services and beauty as well as specific trades such as mechanics, welding and cookery.
Skills
Learners will develop skills to enable them to be proficient in the workplace. These skills are occupational skills, industry skills and essential skills.
For education and training purposes, it is useful to classify skills as follows:
Occupational skills : skills required for performance of one’s work set out in competency terms to meet standards of performance agreed by the industry
Industry skills : knowledge that would enable a worker to understand and appreciate the impact of his work in relation to the industry sector and its role to the Abu Dhabi economy
Essential skills
(also known as employability skills) : enabling skills and capability required for a worker to be effective and adaptable at the workplace.
Essential skills are considered crucial for success in modern business organisations and these will be developed in conjunction with the technology skills and knowledge contained in each unit of the course.

Information technologies
Self-management
Workplace health and safety
Problem-solving and decision making
Initiative and enterprise
Oral and visual communication
Relationship management and life skills
Lifelong learning
Entrepreneurial mindset
VETI-Abu Dhabi provides students with modern facilities in which to undertake their studies. Classes are conducted either in general purpose classrooms or multi media classrooms. Each room is well equipped with modern, stylish furniture and the latest technology including Smart boards, wireless network and internet access as well as easy access to computers.
The VETI-Abu Dhabi library is a comfortable welcoming environment, well resourced with learning materials and technology.
At break time students have access to the cafeteria or can participate in organised sporting activities. Landscaped courtyards provide a pleasant environment for meeting friends, relaxation or quiet reflection.
