Middle East International Film Festival 2009
The Middle East International Film Festival (MEIFF) was established in 2007 and is presented annually in Abu Dhabi, the United Arab Emirates, by the Abu Dhabi Authority for Culture and Heritage (ADACH). MEIFF seeks to affirm the key place Abu Dhabi holds as an emerging cultural center and to foster the growth of its local film community.
The Festival celebrates cinema in all its forms by creating a vibrant forum for storytellers from the Middle East and around the world.
Film is the most powerful and universally valued way for us to recognize the common threads of each other’s stories, no matter how different the external circumstances of our lives may be. The Middle East International Film Festival aims to exemplify this in its third edition, by presenting the latest work of some of the leading voices in international cinema both new and old, as well as films by Middle Eastern filmmakers who may not yet have received the recognition they merit in the rest of the world.
In addition to its international competitions for narratives and documentaries, MEIFF 09 will place special emphasis on the role of the film composer and will create a new award for film music. Abu Dhabi’s long tradition of environmental activism will be reflected in a series of hardhitting films and the program will be rounded out with retrospective presentations and family films.
