Khalifa City, a US$ 40 b project, will be Abu Dhabi’s response to Dubai’s prestigious Sheikh Zayed Road, and will house residential and commercial establishments and a number of international hotel chains as well.
The enormous development stretching from Abu Dhabi’s inland area of Bani Yas and Shawamikh, to 30km off the main city and close to the Abu Dhabi International airport, is currently being developed as the new “residential suburb” in Abu Dhabi.
Khalifa City is divided into 3 areas: Khalifa City A, Khalifa City B, and New Khalifa City. Khalifa City B is on the main highway to Dubai and lies about 30 kilometres from Abu Dhabi.
It is close to Abu Dhabi International Airport. Khalifa City A is further inland and is near Bani Yas and Al Shawamikh. The new Khalifa City is planned to be between A and B. All of Khalifa City is currently being developed in what will become the new city center of Abu Dhabi. Khalifa City A, which already has around 600-700 houses, will be adjacent to the prestigious Al Raha Beach project.
A $136 million ‘new ministries complex project’, which will house certain government agencies, is also being constructed.
Khalifa City is being built by Aldar Properties. The government of Abu Dhabi says it expects to spend US$502.4 million on required infrastructure services and extensive landscaping in the first phases of the city’s upgrades.
