In 1977 Abu Dhabi Municipality (ADM), established the Food Control Laboratory as part of the public health section to test food samples. In 1993 H.H. Sheikh Khalifa Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, issued the law No. (3) of 1993 for "The Establishment of the Food and Environment Control Centre", under the direct jurisdiction of the Chairman of Abu Dhabi Municipality. In 2005 H.H. Sheikh Khalifa Bin Zayed Al Nahyan issued the law No. (2) of 2005 for “The Establishment of Abu Dhabi Food Control Authority (ADFCA)" According to this law ADFCA is the Authorized body in Abu Dhabi Emirate to ensure the safety and quality of food ADFCA is established as an independent entity with full capacity and financial and administrative independence, the Authority has an independent Board of Directors, and is organised in to 3 Divisions. The Statutory Law Number 2/2005 establishing the Abu Dhabi Food Control Authority (ADFCA) came into effect on 5 March 2005. The Authority is the body with responsibility for enforcing food legislation in the Emirate of Abu Dhabi. It is a statutory, science-based agency, dedicated to protecting consumer health and consumer interests in the area of food safety and hygiene. In establishing the Abu Dhabi Food Control Authority, the Government recognised the importance of putting consumer interests first and foremost and the key role of effective food controls in underpinning food trade and the economy.
