The Middle East’s largest single natural island resort development is underway in Saadiyat Island just 500 metres offshore Abu Dhabi, the next upscale tourist destination.
The island is 27km and located 500m off the coast of Abu Dhabi. The island is being developed as a major tourism and leisure destination. The development will have seven districts including Cultural District, Saadiyat Beach, South Beach, and The Wetlands. Saadiyat Island will accommodate more than 170,000 people and will be connected with Abu Dhabi Island via bridges and tunnels.
An agreement for the sale of 809,000 square feet of the secluded Saadiyat beachfront was sealed between HH Sheikh Sultan Bin Tahnoon Al Nahyan, chairman of the Abu Dhabi Tourism Authority (ADTA) and its asset-management arm Tourism Development & Investment Company (TDIC) and Nasser Al Nowais, chairman of Rotana Hotels.
This development is expected to further boost the tourism industry of Abu Dhabi.
Saadiyat Island coined as the Island of Happiness is destined to be a signature residential and tourism destination with the presence of Rotana Resort. The five-star resort, set to open in 2009, will be designed with a distinctly themed atmosphere that would appeal to European tourists. It will have 400-450 upscale hotel rooms, a private beach, an array of restaurants, meeting and conference facilities plus a relaxing spa and a fully equipped Bodylines Health & Fitness Club.
Saadiyat Beach, which lies to the northwest of Saadiyat Island, is master-planned to produce a range of five-star resorts flanking nine kilometers of pristine beach, a championship golf course with freehold villas, dedicated sailing club and private beach clubs.
