Abu Dhabi Fund for Development was established by directions of the late H.H. Sheikh Zayed Bin Sultan AL Nahyan. This initiative came out of his highness strong belief and profound realization of the necessity to extend assistance to Arab, Islamic, and friendly developing countries to face the difficulties, challenges, and economic development problems.Under the prudent and wise leadership of His Highness Sheikh Khalifa Bin Zayed AL Nahyan, president of the United Arab Emirates, Abu Dhabi fund shall continue its benevolent march and its policy of extending economic help to support and backing up the regional and international efforts aiming at achieving development goals in developing countries and fairly participating in the distribution of world resources.The ADFD’s main values & goals are to reduce poverty, and promote social equality and sustainable growth. To attain these values & goals, the ADFD focuses its work on the following priority areas: Fostering competitiveness through support for policies and programs that increase the recipient countries potential for development in an open global economy and by implementing environment protection policies in all the projects. Investing in social programs that expand opportunities for the recipient countries. Promoting regional economic integration by forging links among countries to develop larger markets for their goods and services. Fostering the commitment of ADFD staff to make this happen. The activities of Abu Dhabi Fund for Development focuses on providing assistance in form of loans or grants to finance projects that boost development and improvement of new sectors and infrastructure, such as electricity, water, transportation, telecommunications, healthcare, agriculture and education. These facilities provided by the Fund are intended to lay the foundation for a sustainable development that ensures decent life for poor countries and their future generations. Moreover, Abu Dhabi Fund for Development manages these finances provided by the Abu Dhabi government.The Priority of the ADFD is to contribute to the economic development of developing countries through the extension of loans to finance projects that help in reducing poverty, improve living conditions and quality of life.Since its establishment in 1971, the ADFD has provided 13 billion AED for 197 developmental projects content 162 loans with a total amount of about AED 12 billion, 23 grants with a total amount of about AED 666 million and 12 Investment companies with a total amount of about AED 612 million.The vision of Abu Dhabi Fund for Development is to create an economic environment for developing nations to ensure a sustainable growth.The direct contributions of Abu Dhabi Fund for Development aim at helping the beneficiary countries to develop their economies and enabling them to greatly benefit from the advantages accrued thereof including, especially: Building commercially sustainable facilities.Creating multiple income sources for the local citizens. Revenues accrued from foreign currencies.Creating job opportunities Reinforcing technical and administrative skills. The investment policy adopted by Abu Dhabi Fund for Development focuses on the investment in companies and projects with potentials to contribute to the realization of the national development.
