Al Bateen Executive Airport received last week a microlight aircraft flown by Dave Sykes, a wheelchair-bound British paraplegic pilot, as part of his record breaking journey from York, England to Sydney, Australia in commemoration of the 80th anniversary of the first woman to fly from England to Australia, Amy Johnson.
Sykes’s trip is also raising money for the charity Yorkshire Air Ambulance. When Dave lands in Australia he will be the first microlight pilot to fly from England to Australia. His P&M Aviation built Quick aircraft was serviced by Al Bateen Executive Airport free of charge during his visit. His next destinations include India, Myanmar, Thailand and Indonesia.
