To honour its corporate social responsibility and promoting the country’s heritage, Abu Dhabi Airports Company (ADAC) hosted a traditional event, commonly known in the UAE community as ‘Hag Al Leila’, with the orphans of Sheikh Zayed Childhood Care Centre and children with special needs from Al Ain Private Centre for Care and Rehabilitation.
The event took place at Al Ghazal Golf Club, where children enjoyed various activities including Henna drawing, camel and pony rides. The children were also thrilled by the participation of famous characters such as ‘Majid’, ‘Kaslan Jiddan’, ‘Amouna Al Mazyouna’ and ‘Caramela the cook’, who were made famous through the UAE’s number 1 children magazine; Majid. The characters enthralled the children with a drawing competition, organization of games and generous distribution of gifts.
Moreover, telling old tales and singing is an essential part of this occasion, where children chanted: "Give us sweets for tonight and God will reward you with a pilgrimage to Mecca," along with UAE’s traditional story teller and historian, Ali Al Tamemi, who sat with them in a specially erected traditional tent; regaling them with traditional tales and stories about Ramadan, engaging them in old games their grandparents played, and presented them with colourful baskets filled with sweets and nuts and goodie bags filled with toys and stationary items presented by Abu Dhabi Duty Free.
In this regard, Huraiz Al Mur bin Huraiz, ADAC’s Chief Commercial Officer, stated:
“Hag Al Leila is an occasion that fosters long inherited values, and celebrating it with the children brings so much joy, and we sincerely hope that we have helped bring smiles to the faces of some of the special children in our community. ADAC champions the important social values within our community, and we urge other organisations to undertake similar initiatives as part of their social responsibility towards the community.”
Hag Al Laila is an annual traditional occasion that occurs in the 15th of Shaban, the eighth month in the Islamic Hijri calendar, where families and children prepare for the arrival of the Holy Month of Ramadan.
