As part of its preparations for reception of the Holy Month of Ramadan, the Abu Dhabi Health Services Company (SEHA) has announced the launch of two awareness campaigns for Ramadan, following to the success which the previous campaigns had achieved last year.
The 2012 campaigns drive at educating the public about the need to monitor health and regulate their medication intake during Ramadan, so as to ensure an optimal healthy fasting.
The "My Medication during Ramadan" and" A Healthy Ramadan" social media campaigns increases awareness of the public on the ideal use of the drugs and overcoming its negative aspects during Ramadan. The public would learn how to maintain the health at its best condition and to avoid any complications that may result from fasting, especially for those who have certain diseases.
The first campaign, ’My Medication during Ramadan’, focuses on balancing the consumption of drugs during Ramadan. It highlights major health topics and offers fasting tips for diabetic patients, individuals with heart disease, pregnant women, and children.
"Campaigns of SEHA during Ramadan purpose to educating the public about how to spend this holy month of Ramadan in good health, and without any complications, particularly the patients who suffer from certain diseases that need attention and care during the period of fasting." said Mr. Khalifa Al Ketbi, Deputy Chief of Operations Division at SEHA.
He added that these campaigns would be supported by the hospitals affiliated to SEHA with various activities that contribute to delivering their messages to the public through distribution of awareness brochures and displaying films across all screens in waiting rooms in hospitals of SEHA. This is besides recreational and educational activities, distribution of gifts and organization of competitions, which all lead to the public awareness and familiarizing them with the objectives and purposes of these campaigns.
Ketbi pointed out that the number of beneficiaries of the campaign "My Medication during Ramadan" in the previous year reached 7,500 in all hospitals of SEHA, in addition to the centers of high density and all pharmacies affiliate to it, which are estimated at about 80 pharmacies, including 28 internal and 52 external.
The campaign focused on the organization of medications intake during the month of Ramadan, in addition to essential health topics, such as the most appropriate fasting ways for people with diabetes, asthma, high blood pressure, epilepsy and those who suffer from disorders of digestion, as well as fasting pregnant and breast-feeding women, he added. He noted that the campaign would receive inquires of the customers through the hotlines, email and direct interviews
Meanwhile, pages in the various social networking sites will be allocated for the campaign of this year to identify and educate the public and to answer directly the questions on how to take medication in Ramadan by the specialists. This account (@dawaii_seha) on Twitter was dedicated to respond to inquiries from patients during the holy month of Ramadan.
The second campaign, ’A Healthy Ramadan’, revolves around a charismatic young cartoon character known as ’Saeed’. who stands as the youth, health and a life free of diseases. He interacted with the public through a number of channels, including print, radio and television spots, where he provided health advice to be followed during the holy month.
The role played by "Saeed" focused on communication with the public, and provision of advice and various health guidance to them in a spirit of fun. The characteristics of Saeed had the key role in the transfer of SEHA’s message and attracting the audience, who were happy with what he performed.
SEHA and its hospitals are committed to offer world class healthcare around the clock. It takes upon itself the responsibility to educate the public about matters relating to their health constantly, particularly during Ramadan. SEHA will communicate with the residents of Abu Dhabi through the campaigns, which it hopes contribute to the increase of health awareness among the public.
