The Western Region Development Council (WRDC) has announced its support to the 8th edition of the annual Liwa Dates Festival, Which will be held from July 12th to 18th under the patronage of H.H. Sheikh Mansoor Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Presidential Affairs. The festival comes as part of WRDC’s efforts to implement a long-term strategy towards promoting the Western Region as a unique tourist destination in the UAE and highlighting its history, heritage and other tourist attractions that represent the authentic Arabian culture.
Through sponsoring this major event, WRDC will be supporting the wise efforts of our leaders for preserving the genuine Emirati heritage and improving the importance of culture in Al Gharbia on one hand, while emphasizing the Council’s role in coordinating the sustainable development process and promoting the Region’s culture. The Council also aims at promoting traditional products that are gaining more popularity among tourists and visitors.
WRDC’s support targets raising awareness on the importance of supporting heritage-related and cultural events in Al Gharbia and promoting the Region on the national, regional and International levels.
“We are proud for being an annual supporter to this festival, which has become one of the major events in Abu Dhabi. It also enjoys the support of our leaders who work towards increasing awareness of the western region and developing it in all aspects in order to create a tourist, cultural and urban hub while offering a unique setting for an advanced economy,” Mohammed Hamad bin Azzan Al Mazrouei, the director general of the Western Region Development Council, commented.
“The Arabian Gulf region, particularly the U.A.E., is known for producing the finest quality, world-class dates. Liwa Dates Festival aims at encouraging farmers to improve the quality of dates they produce and educating them on the modern farming technologies, in addition to promoting traditional products and handicrafts,” he added.
Liwa dates Festival is one of the major festivals taking place in the Western Region of Abu Dhabi, being held with the main goal of encouraging competition amongst farm owners to provide the highest standards of quality and taste. This event attracts large numbers of visitors, whether residents or tourists, as well as those interested in dates and local heritage. The festival will feature several cultural and social activities, besides an agriculture tradeshow and a market to sell and exhibit family products and hand –made items and a date auction. The Liwa Dates Festival will also include a poetry gathering, recreational programs for children and folkloric shows by local bands.
