Summer In Abu Dhabi, the month-long blockbuster, family-centric edutainment event, which will run across four halls, spanning 18,969 square metres, at Abu Dhabi National Exhibition Centre (ADNEC) from June 21-July 19, will this year feature 11 mega activities and will be the highlight of a mega promotion with spectacular seasonal deals from Etihad Airways, the award-winning national airline of the UAE, and across more than 50 of the emirate’s hotels and attractions.
“The emirate’s stakeholders have come together like never before for a campaign which simply offers great deals on getting to Abu Dhabi this summer and far more do and see when guests arrive here with deals within reach of many family budgets,” said Nasser Al Reyami, Tourism Standards Director, Abu Dhabi Tourism & Culture Authority which has spearheaded the campaign.
“The campaign is specifically targeted at our crucial domestic and regional markets which have been performing extremely well over the past year and hold out even more promise.”
Families heading to Abu Dhabi from the Middle East and Africa can take advantage of special Etihad Airways’ offers which let kids of 11 years and younger fly free when accompanied by a fare paying adult passenger. Youngsters aged 12-16 will fly for half price when accompanied by a full fare-paying adult.*(Terms and conditions apply).
“The offers are valid from nine destinations in the Middle East and Africa and will be on sale until September 10 for travel until September 15 with the exception of Eid. Once in Abu Dhabi guests will be able to get two-for-one deals across headline attractions including Al Forsan International Sports Resort, Al Ain’s thrilling Wadi Adventure surfing, rafting and kayaking park, Emirates Park Zoo and Hili Fun City, Al Ain. And the family stays promises to be more entertaining than ever with the ‘Summer In Abu Dhabi’ festival hosting ‘Show World’ which will see four character performances every weekday and six on weekends.
“This year we have lined up an action-packed programme that will enthrall everyone from tiny tots to adventure-seeking teenagers,” said Faisal Al Sheikh, Events Manager, Abu Dhabi Tourism & Culture Authority, which presents the annual extravaganza.
In all seven different character shows have been lined up for ‘Show World’ including the highly popular 20-minute Louna musical, which will be performed in Arabic and English and bring the Arab world’s favourite doll to life. Other shows include The Jungle Book, Ice Age and four fairy-tale ice spectaculars - Peter Pan, Snow White, Cinderella and Beauty And The Beast.
The fun this year starts from the very moment Summer In Abu Dhabi goers arrive at ADNEC. “A special train will take families from the car park to the festival entrance,” explained Al Sheikh.
Once inside, visitors can step back millions of years to the Ice Age Village where activities inspired by the popular Ice Age movie, the fourth installment of which will hit cinema screens this summer.
Over in Adventure World the daring can join in telematch activities in the Lost City or take up the Zorb Ball Challenge over an obstacle-rich course.
Eight challenges and fun activities await in the Galatic Academy including the testing trial of passing through the Laser Room without crossing laser beams and lines.
In The Sea Lion Station there are great chances to capture lasting family memories when three sea lions, which will perform 20-30 minutes interactive shows, pause for photo opportunities with their audience.
Families with an artistic bent will love Artsvile, which comes alive with eight activities and where kids can paint their own T-shirts, plates and even faces!
At the Clown Stunt Academy youngsters can learn how to perform movie stunts through seven different interactive activities while the daring can get onboard the ‘Big Bag Jump’ and plunge into a massive air bag from a height of 10 metres.
All the activities will be backed by a bigger-than-ever summer playground, fun fair rides and games, while in three adjoining halls, Abu Dhabi Sports Council will host a range of activities and workshops as part of its Summer Sports Festival targeted at sports enthusiasts from five to 35 years of aged. These will include judo, basketball, soccer, table tennis, tennis, badminton and golf.
Summer In Abu Dhabi will be open at ADNEC from 3pm – 9pm Sunday-Thursday; from 2pm until 10pm on Friday-Saturday.
Entry to ADNEC’s Summer In Abu Dhabi activities, including the three Abu Dhabi Sports Council sports halls, is AED 40 (US $11) for adults and AED 30 (US $8.5) for children under 12 years of age. Tickets can be bought at the door. People producing an Etihad boarding pass with validity from May 15 – July 19 get a single entry free.
