Abu Dhabi International Hunting & Equestrian Exhibition Celebrates Its 10th Anniversary
(6 May 2012)

Under the patronage of HH Sheikh Hamdan bin Zayed Al Nahyan, the Ruler’s Representative in the Western Region (Al Gharbia) of the Emirate of Abu Dhabi, and the President of the Emirates Falconers’ Club, the 10th edition of the Abu Dhabi International Hunting & Equestrian Exhibition (ADIHEX 2012), will be held at the Abu Dhabi National Exhibition Centre. Organized by the Emirates Falconers’ Club, the Exhibition will run from the 5th to the 8th of September.

The Chairman of the Higher Organizing Committee, Board Member of the Emirates Falconers’ Club, and Advisor for Culture and Heritage in the Court of HH the Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi, Mohammed Khalaf al Mazrouei, said that the new edition of ADIHEX would likely register a growth rate that exceeds 10%, compared with the 2011 edition. About 85% of the 31 thousand square meter total area had been booked by more than 500 companies from 39 countries, Al Mazrouei added.

In the past 10 years, ADIHEX has achieved a tremendous success. The number of exhibitors and participating countries has risen remarkably to register a 1200% growth rate, compared with the first edition, held in 2003 and attended by 40 companies from 14 countries. In the second edition of ADIHEX, held in 2004, the number of the participants rose to reach 192 companies from 21 countries. In the third edition, which was held in 2005, the participation of 353 companies from 36 countries was registered. The growing participation confirms the international standing of this specialized event, which is unique of its kind on both regional and international levels.

Al Mazrouei noted that ADIHEX had continued its efforts in establishing sustainable hunting, and supporting a strategy intended to preserve heritage, traditions, and inherent values which characterize the United Arab Emirates. "ADIHEX would be celebrating in September 2012 ten years on from the beginning of the first edition in September, 2003, which had the honor of being visited by the late founding father of the UAE, Sheikh Zayed Bin Sultan Al-Nahyan. That visit confirmed Sheikh Zayed’s commitment to the participation of Emiratis and members of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) in this important heritage event, which was held for the first time by then," Al Mazrouei said.

"Sheikh Zayed’s historic visit of ADIHEX warmed hearts of all exhibitors, and hunting enthusiasts, attached importance to the exhibition and amounted to an acknowledgement of the event’s success," he added.

The new edition of ADIHEX comes after the huge success of the Second International Festival of Falconry, which was held last December 2011 in Al Ain and featured the participation of 80 countries.

Held under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the United Arab Emirates, the Festival celebrated the registration of falconry on the UNESCO’s Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity list, as well as the registration of 17 archaeological sites in Al Ain on the UNESCO’s World Heritage List.

On his part, Mr. Abdullah Al Qubaisi, Director of ADIHEX, revealed that extensive preparations were underway to launch the 10th edition of ADIHEX this year. He said that the Exhibition would feature the latest and best products related to falconry, equestrian, safari, hunting weapons, their components and ammunition, fishing, marine sports, antiques and traditional arts.

Among the participants in ADIHEX this year, there will be the Festival of HH Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed Al Nahyan for Purebred Arabian Horses for the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan Cup, HH Sheikha Fatima Bint Mubarak Ladies World Championship (IFAHR), as well as the Wathba Stud Farm Cup, the Abu Dhabi Equestrian Club, Stone Wings, and international top horse races.

Hunting weapons’ industry will be represented by giant companies, notably Tawazun, IGG (International Gold Group), MP3 International, Hans Wrage & Co Gmbh.

The 10th edition of ADIHEX is expected to attract new exhibitors from the heritage tourism sector, who specialize in hunting trips, particularly from Germany, Argentina, South Africa and Azerbaijan.

The edition will be characterized by the large participation of local and international private companies. Other companies specialized in the manufacturing of hunting technologies will be present to showcase their new inventions. ADIHEX is also expected to enjoy the participation of several artists, notably painters, photographers and sculptors.
