Sixth Edition Of Cityscape Abu Dhabi Comes To A Close At Abu Dhabi National Exhibition Centre
(25 April 2012)
Local developers use real estate event as key platform for latest news and updates: international exhibitors highlight global investment opportunities

The sixth edition of Cityscape Abu Dhabi concludes today at the Abu Dhabi National Exhibition Centre, bringing an end to four successful days of the latest real estate development updates and announcements, both locally and internationally.

Several major UAE based developers showcased their key developments to visiting investors and partners from more than 80 countries. Among them, Sorouh Real Estate launched its retail property brand Boutik, aimed at enhancing the lifestyle experience at some of its major developments.

The Abu Dhabi based developer will open its first Boutik branded space in Sun and Sky Towers on Al Reem Island in June this year, hosting the first ever Waitrose supermarket in the UAE capital. In the second half of the year, Sorouh will also open the grade A shopping mall, Boutik Al Ain, home to a Carrefour hypermarket.

Gurjit Singh, Chief Operations Officer at Sorouh said: “Cityscape Abu Dhabi continues to be one of the most important real estate exhibitions in the MENA region, and we continue to support this annual gathering to demonstrate our commitment to Plan Abu Dhabi 2030 and the long-term vision for the economic development of the emirate.”

“The exhibition is also an opportunity for us to extend our contacts with potential customers and business partners and update them on the excellent progress we are making in our own various developments.”

Baniyas Investment and Development Company (BIDC) also showcased its award winning development, Bawabat Al Sharq project, in Bani Yas city.
The investment and development arm of the Bani Yas Club had a busy year in 2011, when they launched the luxurious Andalucian style villas on Bawabat Al Sharq. The distinct three, four, and five bedroom villas were the focal point of BIDC’s exhibition stand at Cityscape Abu Dhabi this year, and will begin to be handed over to owners by the end of 2013.

“Cityscape Abu Dhabi is the most important real estate show in Abu Dhabi, providing a unique platform to learn of the latest market updates of the regional real estate industry,” said Wael El Ashry, Commercial Vice President at Baniyas Investment and Development Company.

“Being a key player in the real estate industry, Baniyas Investment and Development Company participated this year to gain an overall analysis of the current real estate market scenario, as well as to showcase our flagship developments.”

While major local real estate developers were busy providing the updates for ongoing developments in the UAE capital this year at Cityscape Abu Dhabi, several other exhibitors were attempting to attract would-be investors to the opportunities available to them on a global scale.

Leading the pack was the UK based realtor and developer Knight Knox International, which launched two separate projects at Cityscape Abu Dhabi, including the Laguna Beach Resort Two in Pattaya, Thailand – a collection of 1,100 luxury freehold studio, one bedroom, and two bedroom condominiums, and the luxury Sea Caves Residences on the west coast of Pafos, Cyprus.

Meanwhile, BuildUp Real Estate was looking to lure Middle East investors and end-users to some of the most pristine Mediterranean real estate that Greece currently has to offer.

The Greek based real estate development and investment company was looking to capitalise on recently changed property ownership laws in 2011 that allows non-Europeans to purchase freehold land in the Mediterranean Galapagos of 6,000 islands.

“With more than 16,000kms of coastline, 190,000 beaches and 300 days of sunshine every year, Greece is considered to be the new European hot spot for real estate development in the Southeast Mediterranean,” said Dmitris Papachristou, Chairman and CEO at BuildUp.

“Greek real estate offers investors the chance to build an entire and well diversified property portfolio within one country and is especially ideal for Middle East investors and end-users looking to escape the hot summer months.”

Under the patronage of H.H General Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces, Cityscape Abu Dhabi is the annual barometer for the Abu Dhabi and wider GCC real estate market, where thousands of investors gather to learn about the latest market trends and updates of many of Abu Dhabi’s master developments.

Other major developers taking part this year at Cityscape Abu Dhabi included the Urban Planning Council, Department of Municipal Affairs, Tamouh Investments, Meraas, Aldar Properties, Aabar Properties, Mubadala, Al Maabar, Eshraq Properties, Bloom Properties, Reem Investments, and the Tourism Development & Investment Company.

Chris Speller, Group Director for Cityscape Abu Dhabi said: “Cityscape Abu Dhabi 2012 has proven to be one of the most successful editions yet, reflecting a growing optimism that the regional and international real estate markets are moving in a positive direction. We look forward to building another thriving exhibition in 2013.”

The Foundation Partner of Cityscape Abu Dhabi 2012 is the Department of Municipal Affairs, with Ubiquitous Telecom Technology supporting the event as the Silver Conference Partner. The exhibition returns next year from 16-18 April 2013 at Abu Dhabi National Exhibition Centre.
