Elham Qasimi has been selected by Samsung Gulf Electronics to carry the Olympic Flame at the London 2012 Olympic Torch Relay. Samsung, the Presenting Partner of the London 2012 Olympic Torch Relay, has chosen nine inspiring individuals from the region, from which Elham has been chosen for her determination and courage to be the first Arab female to embark and succeed at reaching the most northern tip of the world.

The Torchbearers from the region were selected via an online nomination campaign that was launched by Samsung Gulf Electronics last year. Any individual over the age of 12 could visit www.samsung.com and nominate anyone who has made a difference in their local community. Elham displayed velour and perseverance, and has proved to be a positive role model in her local community and abroad, is one of the reasons she has been selected as an Olympic Torchbearer from this region.

As a torchbearer Elham will carry the Olympic Flame, the symbol of the world’s most coveted event, for 300 meters where she will then hand it off to another torchbearer. Elham will start at Hull on June 18th 2012. The Olympic Torch Relay is a 70 day event marking the start of the Olympic Games. The Olympic Torch Relay will be carried by 8,000 torchbearers and span across 74 locations in the UK, passing through landmark cities such as Bristol, Cardiff, Liverpool, Belfast, and Glasgow.

Elham Qasimi transcended the ordinary by being the first Arab female to reach the North Pole. Her trek pushed boundaries and inspired youth and the general community. Her active role in NGO’s and local initiatives solidified her spot as a Samsung Olympic Torchbearer. We wish her luck as she carries the flame that she rightfully deserves,” said Mr. Young Soo Kim, President of Samsung Gulf Electronics.

Samsung launched its London 2012 campaign “Everyone’s Olympic Games” alongside Samsung’s Global Olympic Marketing Ambassador David Beckham in June 2011 and hopes to offer memorable experiences to more people than ever before. The Torchbearer entitlement is of great essence to Elham and the other honorary individuals of this region and Samsung has made this achievable on an International platform.
