This weekend Aussie V8 Supercar drivers Craig Lowndes and Lee Holdsworth are making a special trip to Abu Dhabi as guests of Yas Marina Circuit. While motorsport will be on the agenda, the champion duo will be in the capital 6-9 April to participate in a bucket list of activities as part of a special tourism promotion in conjunction with partners Etihad Airways and Abu Dhabi Tourism & Culture Authority (ADTCA).
Yas Marina Circuit said that while the circuit will be central to their visit, both Lowndes and Holdsworth will be in for some surprises: “Every year, people from all over the world tune in to the Etihad Airways Abu Dhabi Grand Prix,” said Nick McElwee, Director of Marketing and Communications at Yas Marina Circuit. “What these people may not realise is that Abu Dhabi offers a host of year-round activities that will impress even the most seasoned of adventurers.”
Filmed for the duration of their Abu Dhabi adventure, Lowndes and Holdsworth will follow an action packed itinerary including “racing” up Jebel Hafeet, surfing and white water rafting, helicopter tours, flying the Etihad simulator, amongst many others. The filmed adventure will be aired worldwide through a number of outlets including Sunrise TV, Australia’s number 1 breakfast show and Etihad Airways inflight entertainment. “Working closely with our partners Etihad Airways and ADTCA, we want to bring more international travellers to Abu Dhabi to show all that the emirate has to offer. From Yas Marina Circuit to Al Ain to golf and adventure sport, Abu Dhabi truly has something for everyone,” added McElwee.
Whilst in Abu Dhabi, one of the key motorsport activities in which Lowndes and Holdsworth will be participating will be the Head2Head Challenge – the first ever pan-GCC, multi-discipline, motorsport event – leveraging local heroes and international stars. The two will compete against F1 stars Mika Salo and Tonio Liuzzi as well as some of the GCC’s and UAE’s best motorsport drivers in a host of motorsport competitions that will include karting, drag racing, drifting, and sprint races in the Formula Yas3000.
No strangers to the capital, three-time Aussie V8 Champion Lowndes and Ford Irwing Racing’s Holdsworth are veterans of the Yas Marina Circuit; participating in 2010’s and 2011’s V8 400 races. For more information and to register, please visit www.yasmarinacircuit.ae.
