Sheikh Nahyan bin Mubarak Al Nahyan, Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research and President of Zayed University, said that the achievements of the University since its establishment are abundant and growing, emphasizing on the University’s ambitious, promising and active participation in the process of comprehensive development in the country.
He pointed out that Zayed University is looking forward to a successful future, God willing, stressing the need to exert effort, and provide the necessary resources, to shape and achieve.
He said he is fully confident that the University’s history and the high level of its faculty and staff in various disciplines will enable it to meet the challenges of the future, deservedly, and successfully.
Those remarks came during the thirteenth session of the University’s Council which he presided today at the university’s campus in Abu Dhabi.
Dr. Sulaiman Al Jassim, Vice President of Zayed University, said that the Council discussed many academic and scientific programs and initiatives, and agreed on granting the Bachelor degree to the female graduates of the second semester of the academic year 2010/2011 (345 students in both Abu Dhabi and Dubai campuses, and the female graduates of the first semester of the academic year 2011/2012 (275 students). He indicated that this semester will witness the graduation of the first batch of male graduates (10 students) majored in information systems and techniques management, which is joint with the College of Information Technology and the College of Business Studies at Abu Dhabi campus.
Dr. Al Jassim added that the Council also approved a memorandum on the establishment of the Arabic Language Institute at Zayed University in order to enhance our students’ proficiency of their mother language and developing its teaching methods to attract young people to maintain it, along with English as a second language. He pointed out that the Institute of Arabic Language will be a leading research and education centre on both regional and international levels, referring to the Council’s approval of the appointment of Dr. Obaid Al Muhairi, as a Director of the Institute of Arabic Language. He mentioned that Dr. Muhairi has worked in several prime locations where he served as an educational specialist at the Ministry of Education and Deputy Chairman of the Sharjah Education Council.
On the other hand, Dr. Al Jassim said the council discussed a report on the fourth session of the three-day conference "Women as Global Leaders" which was organized by the University at Abu Dhabi Campus, under the patronage of Her Highness Sheikha Fatima bint Mubarak "Mother of Emirates" during the period (March 13-15) with the participation of nearly a thousand of specialists and interested delegates and students from international in about forty countries and has seen open sessions, workshops and seminars.
