The Abu Dhabi Education Council (ADEC) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Shamsa Bint Suhail Award for Creative Women in their efforts to empower women and enhance their roles in society.
The MoU recognizes creative Emirati women in the education, public service and literary fields as well as creative special need females in all fields.
H.E. Dr. Mugheer Khamis Al Khaili, Director General of ADEC lauded the efforts made by the UAE to support women and ensure they earn a better status in society.
"Women have been empowered in the UAE and worldwide. They are provided with equal opportunities as men and have become an integral part of workf orce that contributes to the UAE’s social and economic development. Now women play pivotal roles in society in their positions as ambassadors, doctors, teachers, employees, and housewives," said Dr. Al Khaili.
ADEC is keen to strengthen collaboration with Shamsa Bint Suhail Award for Creative Women in efforts to encourage creativity at an organizational level through encouraging ADEC female staff members to become more creative and innovative. The award will be targeting female students, teachers and administrators.
"Orientation sessions will be organized by ADEC in collaboration with the award team to encourage applications from women across the emirate. Database of ADEC creative women in various award categories will be created."
"Joint projects to be implemented come in line with the ADEC’s strategic goals to foster national culture and identity, enlarge private sector engagement in education, encourage Emirati’s to become educators while implementing highest international performance standards," elaborated Dr. Al Khaili.
Dr. Mouza Obaid Ghabash, Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the award said that the the MoU will help improve overall performance levels and achieve excellence in the educational field.
The collaboration will assist in discovering creative ideas and innovations among thousands of Emirati women working in the educational field, while promoting a culture of excellence. Partnerships with various stakeholders eventually lead to achieving the national strategic goals and comprehensive development, she added.
"HH Sheikha Shamsa Bint Suhail, who is the sponsor of the award and wife of His Highness Sheikh Khalifa Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, UAE President, believes that Emirati women must be encouraged to use their utmost potential to help achieve sustainable development and prosperity. HH is keen to have women enlightened on the importance of their role in all walks of life including health, environment, social work, culture, economy and many more," said Dr. Ghabash.
Emirati women represent 40% of the UAE’s educational workforce; with their contribution significantly increasing over the last two decades an Emirati women’s share in the UAE’s national economy increased from 9.6% in 1986 to 33.4% in 2007. This has resulted in greater involvement in education that enabled women to fill senior positions in various sectors.
The UAE has 77% of its Emirati woman enrolled in higher education, making it the world’s highest enrollment of women across higher education institutions.
The UAE is also recognized by the UN as one of the pioneering countries in terms of women education.
