Under the patronage of H.H. Sheikha Fatima bin Mubarak, Chairwoman of the General Women’s Union (GWU) and of the Family Development Foundation (FDF), Fatima College of Health Sciences, affiliated to the Institute of Applied Technology, organizes its first annual conference under the slogan "Nursing Education and Practice: leading quality services" on 14-15 March, 2012, At Abu Dhabi campus with the world participation of 30 international experts from 10 countries.
Dr. Abdul Latif Al Shamsi, Director General of the Institute of Applied Technology, chairman of the conference, said, ’’This conference comes in the framework of the College strategy which is working to continuously enhance the university’s system to keep up with most specialized programs in the health sector, in order to produce Emirati specialized cadres in all health professions, who have all the technical tools and high capabilities to provide world class health care to patients in the Emirati community".
Referring to the massive developments which are currently taking place in the nursing profession, require a follow up on a permanent basis for achieving the desired development in the educational process of the College through viewing the best global practices and then apply it in the curricula which guarantee the achievement of all scientific and national goals of the College.
Al Shamsi added: "The conference is a significant milestone on the path of this noble profession to highlight a range of themes and ideas that are in the framework of the development of the education and the practice of nursing, and the rehabilitation of nurses so as to be able to bear the burden of this profession faithfully and raise the performance efficiency in the health facilities of the State." He said that the conference will discuss the importance of applying the initiative ’Hekma health care’ launched by the Institute of Applied Technology at some public schools, in addition to highlight the importance of developing teaching methods in the Colleges and institutes of nursing and training centers according to the income of the modern era, to include the simulation technique in nursing education, pointing out that Fatima College of Health Sciences has a unique partnership with Griffith University, Australia, for the implementation of the Higher Diploma and Bachelor of Nursing program in accordance with the finest high-level educational system, and has another partnership with other School of Medicine and Health Sciences at the world Monash University in Australia to offer two degrees of high school diploma and bachelor in new four specialties : pharmacy, physiotherapy, radiology, ambulance and emergency.
This indicates clearly that the College offers an integrated system of health specialties required in the labor market to graduate a qualified citizen with high levels quality in all health specialties to meet the needs of our wise leadership aims at the settlement in the health sector with Emirati distinct competencies. The Conference agenda features a series of lectures, workshops and the plenary discussions which deal with several main topics all intended in the development of nursing education and practice including challenges facing the nursing staff, methodology of nursing in the modern era, specialization in nursing and the image of the nurse in the media.
