The Mubadala World Tennis Championship has given the UAE’s most talented youngsters the chance to learn from the World’s top tennis players. Winners from the five age groups of the Mubadala Community Cup took part in exclusive clinics with the stars of this year’s Mubadala World Tennis Championship.
After qualifying in the build-up to the championship, the lucky winners and runners-up from the popular community initiatives lived out their dreams and learnt key skills from their tennis heroes on the courts at the Abu Dhabi International Tennis Complex, Zayed Sports City.
The talented youngsters soaked up expert coaching tips on training, technique and diet before testing their skills and having pictures taken with the legends of the game. The hugely popular Mubadala Community Cup is a grassroots initiative that over the past three years has provided a platform for aspiring local players in various age groups to gain valuable tournament experience and learn from the world’s best players and coaches.
Shaitha Al Romaithi, spokesperson for tournament organizers FLASH Entertainment, explained:
“Engaging the community in tennis is not just about meeting the stars. These clinics provide children with a once in a lifetime opportunity to learn from the best in the business. We hope they take away valuable skills and are inspired by seeing these great athletes in action up close on center court. “
“The Mubadala Community Cup initiative allows children to experience the thrill of competitive tennis in a friendly and constructive environment. Support and interest in the programme has continued to grow and FLASH Entertainment are proud to support this emerging generation of tennis enthusiasts.”
In addition to the Mubadala Community Cup, eight youngsters aged 7yrs to 12yrs from the Mubadala Tennis in Schools programme played a mini-tennis tournament and were presented with certificates to celebrate their natural talent and enthusiasm for the game on the opening day of the championship.
Encouraging interest in the sport from a young age is vital for its growth and for the development of local talent. The schools programme gave local children the chance to learn from some of the country’s leading coaches with schools visits to 40 schools across the UAE, taking tennis to many children who would not otherwise had the chance to play.
