Khalifa University announced that Professor Hans Joachim Schellnhuber, a world expert on climate change, will be the next speaker in its Distinguished Speakers Series. His lecture, ’Will Innovation Save the World?’ will take place on January 8th, 2012, in collaboration with the Emirates Center for Strategic Studies and Research in Abu Dhabi.
Schellnhuber will argue that the world seems locked onto a precariously unsustainable path, epitomized by climate change, biodiversity loss, soil degradation, resource depletion, chaotic urbanization and financial crises. He will present a way to address these dangers.
"We are honored to welcome Prof. Schellnhuber as our next Distinguished Speaker," said Khalifa University President Tod Laursen. "His vision on how innovation in science and technology can contribute to the solution of pressing sustainability problems should inspire a good discussion and reflect the University’s commitment to research and regionally relevant innovation. This talk offers a nice complement to the University’s mission and its integral role in the Abu Dhabi 2030 vision of transforming the national economy."
Hans Joachim Schellnhuber is a Professor, Director and Founder of the Potsdam Institute for Climate Impact Research in Germany.
