Dr. Minister of Justice, and Chairman of the Federal Supreme Judicial Council Dr. Hadef Jouan Al Dhahiri has signed an ordinance setting up two new circuit courts in Abu Dhabi to look into intellectual property rights disputes cases, in which federal government entities are parties.
The new circuits, at primary and appellate court levels, will try all disputes within the periphery of the intellectual property rights, which include trade marks, copyrights, the industrial property law and patents.
Head of the Judicial Inspection Department at the Justice Ministry Jassim Saif Buasaibah said that the new circuit courts are set up as part of the Ministry’s strategy, which seeks to provide excellent services keeping abreast with the best practices of universal jurisdiction and to establish specialised courts.
During the past years, the ministry of justice had introduced, from time to time, various specialised circuit courts at the federal level to try disputes related to IT, publishing and media. The federal criminal circuit court set up to try cyber crimes and other cases related to IT was the first in the entire Middle East region.
The Ministry also delegated young practicing national judicial staff to several world countries for training to help run the specialised courts.
