The top 10 players from the latest Manchester United Soccer Schools (MUSS) programme in Abu Dhabi were announced during a presentation at the Dome@Rawdhat.
Three hundred and fifty children participated in the latest MUSS module – the highest recorded since the soccer school launched in October 2010 – and the top 10 point scorers battled against their peers in a series of skills challenges which tested their dribbling and ball control techniques.
Two children from each age group will now go forward to take part in the Abu Dhabi Skills Final to take place in autumn 2012. They will be joined by 10 more participants from the MUSS module two which starts on Saturday 7 January and by a further 10 participants from module three which will begin in spring 2012.
All players who took part in the latest programme, which reflected the dynamic styles seen from Manchester United first team players like Danny Welbeck, Tom Cleverley, Phil Jones and Chris Smalling, received certificates and individual player evaluations from their coaches in front of parents, siblings and friends.
“The skills challenges are a great way to test the abilities of our players and chart their progress but the beauty is that they are age-handicapped so the seven year olds can compete fairly against the 16 year olds,” said Andy Dixon, head coach at MUSS Abu Dhabi.
“Of the 30 children we will put forward into the competition, the top two point scorers will receive an all expenses paid trip to Manchester to represent Abu Dhabi and compete against their peers from around the world, playing in front of 75,000 people at Old Trafford.”

Abu Dhabi based developer Reem Investments, which has signed a partnership agreement with MUSS, built the Dome@Rawdhat in order to create a vibrant sporting community in the area. Reem Investments have the exclusive rights to extend the MUSS programme across the GCC.
The second MUSS module kicks off on Saturday 7 January, 2012 and will focus on the specific techniques of players Ryan Giggs, Nani and Antonio Valencia. For the first time in the UAE, there will be girls-only sessions conducted on the indoor pitches at the Dome@Rawdhat under the tutelage of female coach Stela Samuela.
