One of the world’s most respected trance DJs says the internet has played a crucial role in the evolution of electronic music in the Middle East.

With just days to go before the most popular electronic music festival in the region, Creamfields Abu Dhabi 2011 (November 8-9), begins, German DJ Markus Schulz says he has seen the genre grow significantly in the region over the past decade.

“People have been able to hear what the rest of the world is doing because of the internet,” he said. Our radio shows are being broadcast over the internet, and people in the Middle East have been able to hear what is going on and be part of the global community.”

The popular spinner, who will appear on stage on Thursday night, says the Middle East has embraced the genre, with more people turning out to see him and other DJs go over the last few years in many parts of the Arab world.

Not only that, he said: “They know the songs and sing along to the melodies. There is a lot more interaction; it’s incredible. Now when I release a new track, and then when I go to the Middle East, people already know the song. It’s not just the sheer numbers but also the knowledge and interaction, which is great now.”

Based in Florida, Markus Schulz spearheaded a sea change revolution in the US trance scene. This success has been reflected in weekly sets played in frontof tens of thousands while his acclaimed Global DJ Broadcast show has a listenership in the millions. Schulz has also worked in the studio with Madonna, Backstreet Boys and Jewel.

He says he is looking forward to Creamfields Abu Dhabi this weekend (November 8-9) where he will be performing alongside “good friends” Ferry Corsten and Jochen Miller, and an impressive lineup of international DJs and artists, during the two-day music festival, in the UAE Capital.

“I love the Middle East and the supporters,” he said. I’m looking forward to this event; actually I have been talking about this event since I was booked. This is going to be a great party.”

Musically, he says: “I’ve got a new artist album that I’m working on so I’m looking forward to sampling some of the tracks in Abu Dhabi. I also have the Dakota (his alias) remix album out which I finished recently.”

For the first time Creamfields Abu Dhabi 2011 will be held over two days at the Yas Arena. Dance fans will enjoy over 24 hours of the world’s finest electronica Live and DJ talent.
