Hamilton to claim back to back victories at Yas Marina Circuit?
(25 November 2011)
Lewis, Sebastian, Michael, Jenson and many more race for the chequered flag

The names of F1 legends are back and ready to race on the grid at Yas Marina Circuit at 6pm (Saturday 26th November) at the inaugural ADNIC Yas Run.

This time, however, Hamilton is not bringing his Mum or his McLaren. Gareth Hamilton is a 34 year old Briton. Along with three fellow runners of Team McLaren, the foursome will take on the first officially certified 10km course in the region.

Dubai resident Hamilton commented: “Having followed the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix a few weeks back, I’m now eager to take on the challenge of running around the F1 track myself. Of course, I’m not Lewis but along with my colleagues we hope set a respectable time in the Team Relay and really enjoy this unique experience at such an iconic venue.”

The names, shapes and sizes of the runners include many F1 namesakes from Lewis Hunt to Andrew Weber, Sebastian Devillers to Bruno Stewart. Jenson is also competing. Jenson Lowe, a pupil at the British School Al Khubairat, is taking part in the 1km race at 4pm with his school friend Max.

More than 2,000 runners, made up of more than 90 nationalities, are expected to descend upon Yas Marina Circuit today to take part in the community running event. The UAE’s leading running clubs will also be represented including participants from Abu Dhabi Striders, Mirdif Milers and Dubai Road Runners. A number of runners have also entered from the UAE Athletics Federation.

Other notable runners expected to participate in the main 10km race include, 16 year old Kenyan running sensation, Gatonye Daniel; Nepalese runner, Lok Bahadur Rokaya; Faris Al Sultan, Team Abu Dhabi and current European Ironman Champion; and HE General Obaid Al Kutbi from Abu Dhabi Police.

Spectators are welcome to attend free of charge where they can enjoy a range of activities and entertainment in the Race Village, including face painting, stilt walkers and a magician.

The ADNIC Yas Run has been created by Yas Marina Circuit and Professional Sports Group, who will manage the sporting operations on the day. The creation of the race has been fully supported by ADNIC.
