- Thousands set to participate in inaugural ADNIC Yas Run
Abu Dhabi National Insurance Company (ADNIC), a leading insurance company in the UAE, and Yas Marina Circuit, today announced that the team founder and the leader of Team Abu Dhabi Triathlon, Faris Al Sultan, is set to participate in the inaugural ADNIC Yas Run which takes place at Yas Marina Circuit on November 26th.
Former World Ironman Champion and current European Ironman Champion, Al Sultan, will use the ADNIC Yas Run as part of his training ahead of the Abu Dhabi International Triathlon which takes place in March, 2012.
Starting at twilight under a floodlit track, the community running event allows participants to follow the same route as Lewis Hamilton, the winning F1 driver of the 2011 Formula 1TM Etihad Airways Abu Dhabi Grand Prix, which took place last weekend at Yas Marina Circuit.
Faris Al Sultan, who will compete in the 10km race, commented: “I’m really looking forward to taking part in the ADNIC Yas Run; it’s great to see a running event designed to appeal to the whole community from children right through to those over 60. It will also be a unique experience to compete in the early evening on a F1 track – an iconic backdrop to what is set to be a very exciting run.”
“As a professional athlete, I am keen to highlight the benefits of leading a healthy lifestyle and how incorporating training can reduce the risk of health problems such as diabetes and heart disease.”
Participants have the option of registering for the full 10km run or in a team relay, allowing runners of all abilities to join in. The event also features a 3km run for children aged between 12 and 15 and a 1km run for children aged between 8 and 11.
At the Race Village, families can enjoy a range of activities and entertainment including face painting, stilt walkers and a magician. Football fans will have the chance to try and match the power of Manchester City star players by taking on a special shooting challenge organised by the English Premier League club. There will be prizes for winners and the opportunity to sign-up free for official Manchester City Sky Blue membership - a new scheme for everyone in the UAE. Benefits include access to big match screenings and discounts on trips to watch the team live in action at the Etihad Stadium in Manchester.
Walid Sidani, Chief Executive Officer of ADNIC, said: “We are delighted with the support received to date for the ADNIC Yas Run, including the number of participants who have registered to the involvement from our key partners, in particular our Health Partners, Al Noor, Health Authority Abu Dhabi, NMC and Vanbreda International, who will be providing all medical support on the day.”
“The ADNIC Yas Run provides the perfect opportunity for people of all running abilities to challenge themselves whilst raising money for a good cause. It will also be a great afternoon out for the whole family and we welcome competitors and spectators alike to visit us at the Race Village.”
The winners of the 10km course, which has been internationally certified by the Association of International Marathons and Distance Races (AIMS), will each receive free entry in the UAE Healthy Kidney 10K in Central Park, New York, along with two return flights, courtesy of Etihad Airways.
Richard Amos, 57, one of the oldest registered competitors to date, added:
“I’m looking forward to challenging myself over the 10km distance, whilst also raising money for a local charity. Having watched the Grand Prix live last weekend, I cannot wait to get on the track and take part in this competitive race. It’s set to be a great afternoon out for the whole family.”
Registration for the ADNIC Yas Run 2011 will close on Tuesday 22nd November 2011. Participants can register at www.adnicyasrun.ae where they can also access training programmes and sponsorship forms.
The ADNIC Yas Run is a joint initiative by Yas Marina Circuit and Professional Sports Group, who will manage the sporting operations on the day. The race has been fully supported throughout by ADNIC.
