Over 200 school children from ADEC Government schools visited the 2011 Formula 1 Etihad Airways Abu Dhabi Grand Prix today. The students were given tickets by Mubadala Development Company (Mubadala), an investment and development company owned by the Government of Abu Dhabi, as an extension of their commitment as the presenting partner of the F1TM in School Challenge in the UAE.
The students witnessed the day’s racing from the Marina Grandstand, overlooking the support race pit lane. They also visited the F1 in Schools stand to get a head start on the projects they must complete as part of the programme.
Donald Sankey, the Manager of F1 in Schools at Yas Marina Circuit, commented:
“It is a fantastic opportunity for students to learn more about engineering, science and technology in an exciting environment. The programme is very inspirational for the students, and it is being bought to life by the on track action at the grand prix.”
The F1 in Schools programme hosted in the UAE by Yas Marina Circuit, and presented by Mubadala, is the world’s leading multi-disciplinary challenge for 9-19 year-old students. Students form mini-F1 teams, consisting of three to six members. The teams are tasked with completing a series of hands-on assignments from different career fields such as engineering and marketing.
