Hot on the heels of gaining US Federal Government approval for covering 42 miles of the Colorado River in Arkansas, Christo will this week brief Abu Dhabi students and VIP guests on his latest project, entitled Over the River. Christo will be hosted by the New York Univeristy Abu Dhabi (NYUAD) Institute for a public lecture on his work on Monday, November 14th in Abu Dhabi.
Permission was granted by the US Federal Government on Monday for the temporary work of art, following 19 years of community and government engagement by Christo and his late wife Jeanne-Claude.
Over the River will involve suspending 5.9 miles of silvery, luminous fabric panels high above the Arkansas River along a 42-mile stretch of the river between Salida and Cañon City in southern Colorado. It will run for two consecutive weeks at a date to be confirmed, probably August, 2014.
In addition to participating in an NYUAD public event during his visit to Abu Dhabi, Christo will also address students at the Higher College of Technology and Zayed University.
Christo said, “Abu Dhabi’s art and culture programme is very important - creating beautiful art is the mark of a great civilization.”
The NYUAD Institute lecture on Monday, 14th November’s is open to the public and will take place at the Intercontinental Hotel Auditorium at 6:30pm. Members of the public can RSVP for the event on the NYUAD events webpage: http://nyuad.nyu.edu/news.events/
