- Yasalam Responsibly reaches out to thousands of students in the Capital
- Cambridge High School and Abu Dhabi International School delivered the winning campaigns
The Yasalam Responsibly competition attracted some fierce competitors from a variety of teaching institutes in the Capital. Students presented their campaigns at the F1 FanZoneTM, that is brought to Abu Dhabi by Aabar, on the Abu Dhabi Corniche. The contest winners won F1 TM race tickets to the 2011 Etihad Airways Abu Dhabi Grand Prix courtesy of Yas Marina Circuit as well as an XBOX courtesy of the F1 FanZone TM. Additionally, winning campaigns will be featured in local media.
A judging panel included, Richard Cregan the CEO of ADMM, Mike Fairburn the Director of Marketing and Planning at FLASH Entertainment and Carlo Botagi Co-Founder of the F1 FanZoneTM . While teams from 9 education institutes, which include; American International School, Abu Dhabi International School, NYIT Abu Dhabi, NYU Abu Dhabi, Zayed University Men’s, Zayed University Women’s, Higher College of Technology (Abu Dhabi Men’s), Higher College of Technology (Abu Dhabi Women’s), Higher College of Technology (Khalifa Women’s), Khalifa University, Cambridge High School, and Masdar Institute, gave very creative presentations of their campaigns.
The winning campaigns were delivered by students from the Cambridge High School and the Abu Dhabi International School. Their road safety strategy, which included video edits and a dance show, attracted the attention of the judging panel and hundreds of spectators who turned out to watch them live at the F1 FanZone TM last night at the Abu Dhabi Corniche.
The competition was part of Yasalam Responsibly; a new road safety campaign aimed at driving home the message that speed, not wearing seatbelts, dangerous driving, talking on mobile phones, and texting while driving are the leading causes of accidents and fatalities on our roads. The community initiative also targeted passengers, who play a key role in ensuring their friends drive responsibly.
Over the last month, Yasalam Responsibly, part of Yasalam Live Across the City, saw some of the country’s most prominent Emirati footballers, motor racing celebrities, and road safety campaigners visit schools and universities in Abu Dhabi.
The Yasalam Responsibly campaign has also spread throughout the community, with a special booth that is setup at the F1 FanZone TM from 28 October – 14 November. It features; a photomontage of all the campus visits, a display of pledge certificates signed by high profile figures from Abu Dhabi and UAE, a car that has been wrecked in an high speed crash, which was used for an extrication demonstration by the Civil Defense who showed the community how they remove a dummy from a car wreck in emergencies. In addition, there was a photo booth which prints free pictures that features fun road safety template as well as the Yasalam Responsibly Pledge Counter, which shows the number of people who pledge to be safer drivers with the public being encouraged to sign.
The Capital is celebrating Yasalam 2011 here on Abu Dhabi Corniche with a large variety of activities. Over the next week we will be seeing more motorsport flavored action in the F1 FanZone™, there is the return of the hugely popular Beats on the Beach starting 9th November. This year’s Yasalam Live on the Corniche is bigger and better than ever before. The fun is just beginning!
