- Winning 10km male and female to receive return flights to New York
- 10km course becomes the first internationally certified in Abu Dhabi
Abu Dhabi National Insurance Company (ADNIC), a leading insurance company in the UAE, and Yas Marina Circuit, today announced that the ADNIC Yas Run has officially received international certification for its 10km course by the Association of International Marathons and Distance Races (AIMS).
Held this November 26th at Yas Marina Circuit, the ADNIC Yas Run offers runners the opportunity to compete over an internationally certified 10km course whilst battling it out for the first prize, the chance to join professional runners from around the globe at the eighth annual UAE Healthy Kidney 10K held in Central Park, New York. The first male and female to cross the finish line in the individual 10km race will each receive one free entry into the 10k race in New York and two return flights courtesy of Etihad Airways.
Hugh Jones, Executive Secretary, AIMS, recently flew to Abu Dhabi where he carried out the official measurement of the route around the F1 track at Yas Marina Circuit. He commented: “Having ridden around the entire course, the ADNIC Yas Run looks a great route for runners of all abilities. The spectacle of being able to run on the F1 track in the early evening will be a magnificent backdrop to what is set to be a very exciting run and which I foresee attracting many international runners.”
Walid Sidani, Chief Executive Officer of ADNIC, said: “We are delighted to offer such a great prize for the 10km race and thank Etihad Airways for their support. The winning male and female will receive a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to visit New York and I also look forward to presenting the winners with the ADNIC Golden Runner trophy.”
He added, “It’s also fantastic to see so many participants actively raising money for the ADNIC Yas Run Official Charity, the UAE Red Crescent. We hope to generate significant funds to aid the wonderful work carried out by them.”
The ADNIC Yas Run Team Relay has now opened up to all. Teams of four persons can be mixed or all male and all female. With each runner completing a distance of 2.5km, the relay offers a realistic challenge for social runners to team up with friends or work colleagues and conquer the 10km challenge together.
Those participating in the 10km and 3km events will start from the official F1 starting grid before finishing under the chequered flag. All runners will be issued with timing chips to receive their official race time as there will be category prizes for the individual events as well as for the first three people to cross the finish line.
Registration is now open for the ADNIC Yas Run 2011. There are 400 free places for the 1km and 3km races which are allocated on a first come first serve basis by calling 800 YAS (927). Participants for the 10km and Team Relay can register at www.adnicyasrun.ae where they can also access training programmes and sponsorship forms.
The ADNIC Yas Run is a joint initiative by Yas Marina Circuit and Professional Sports Group, who will manage the sporting operations on the day. The race has been fully supported throughout by ADNIC.
