Zayed Sports City, the region’s premier sports and entertainment complex in the UAE with the Abu Dhabi Figure Skating Team (ADFST), announced the theme for this year’s eagerly anticipated annual ice show …. Once again, the members of Abu Dhabi Figure Skating Team are ready to lace up their ice skates and entertain you with their newest show … Enchanted Forest on Ice. The event will showcase one of the best character line-ups of the globally known cartoon scene to ever perform at the Abu Dhabi Ice Rink.
15 of the world’s most famous cartoon characters will be represented on the ice with one the most exciting character line-ups in the show’s history, guaranteeing audiences a great experience. Sell-out crowds are expected for both days of the only amateur ice show in Abu Dhabi, which returns to Zayed Sports City, Abu Dhabi Ice Rink on 9 and 10 December 2011.
On both days ,the skaters will go through the fairytale looking glass and take you on a trip through the enchanted forest. Our heroine, Red Riding Hood is in a race against time to beat the big, bad wolf through the forest to Grandma’s house. Along the way she will bump into some regular residents of a fairytale forest such as Hansel and Gretel, Rapunzel, Cinderella, Peter Pan, Winnie the Pooh, Robin Hood and his Merry Men, and the Ugly Duckling.
The music for the show is a mix of classical and modern. As always with ADFST shows, there will be some twists and turns along the way with some unexpected visitors, such as Barney the Dinosaur, Ali Baba and the 40 Thieves, a Prince who can’t seem to find his true love, the Smurfs and a whole lot more.
“The Annual Ice Show is a key date on the Abu Dhabi Ice Rink calendar and we look forward to watching our figure skaters perform their best ever numbers on the ice. The 35 skaters train very hard all year long to put together this show and rehearse for over 150 hours before the performances. We have put together a membership programme to give them additional ice time so they can be ready to perform in front of a 1,200 people crowd. This event is a community event and all the profits go into developing the team, ice time for training and getting the rink ready for such a fantastic event”, says Maria Gedeon, Director of Marketing at Zayed Sports City.

“We have been doing shows at Abu Dhabi Ice Rink since 2005 and the number of skaters in the team has increased tremendously over the years thanks to this event. “The team started rehearsing for the show in September and have spent more than 150 hours practising the choreography so they can be perfect on the night. This is the event the skaters look forward to the most. The standard of skating is very good and you can tell the kids are having as much fun on the ice as the members of the audience are having in the seats”, added Bedo.
VIP tickets cost AED 120; Adult tickets cost AED 60; School age child tickets cost AED 30; School Groups of 20+ kids cost AED 20 each and kids under 3 can go on parents lap for free.
