Employees of Emirates Post Group have launched a campaign to vote for Bu Tinah for the ‘New 7 Wonders of Nature’ title. Bu Tinah, which is a national treasure of the UAE, was the only one from the Gulf to reach the final shortlist of 28 in the global hunt for the New 7 wonders of Nature.
A delegation from Emirates Post Group, led by Ibrahim Bin Karam, Chief Commercial Officer of the Group, and Mr. Abdullah Mohammed Alashram, Chief Executive Officer of Emirates Post, visited an exhibition on Bu Tinah at Abu Dhabi Corniche, and voted for the island’s inclusion in the New 7 Wonders of Nature.
Mr. Bin Karam urged the Group’s employees to support this national initiative to highlight the country’s unspoilt ecosystems and thus showcase to the world the UAE’s efforts to preserve environment and marine life.
The Group’s Department of Mass Communications sent email messages urging all employees to vote for Bu Tinah by SMS or through the website.
The New 7Wonders of Nature will be announced after the voting deadline of November 11. People can vote by sending an SMS containing the word «Bu Tinah» to the number «3888» or through the website, a process that takes less than two minutes.
The Bu Tinah Island, located around 130km west of Abu Dhabi, was established as a natural reserve in 2001 and then accepted by Unesco as a core area within the Marawah Marine Biosphere Reserve in 2007 — the first such reserve in the region. Bu Tinah is undisturbed by development, boat traffic and fishing. Bu Tinah was shortlisted among 28 finalists in total, from an original 447 sites from around the world.
