Abu Dhabi Health Services Company PJSC (SEHA) held its second SEHA Circle of ExcellenceSM gala award ceremony at the Al Raha Beach Hotel. The event recognizes successful leadership within SEHA’s network of healthcare providers and encourages initiative.
“The SEHA Circle of ExcellenceSM award ceremony is in line with SEHA’s mission to create a world-class healthcare network on par with the best in the world. The ceremony recognizes and acknowledges leadership within SEHA and its partners with the overall aim of encouraging role models of excellence,” said Carl Stanifer, CEO, SEHA.
About 125 guests including H.E. Saif Bader Al Qubaisi, Chairman and Carl V. Stanifer, CEO attended the event. Representatives from all nine business units of the SEHA HealthSystem were present to see awards given in 9 different areas of leadership excellence in addition to an award for the top performing business entity within the network.
Dr. Joseph A Michelli, noted author and organizational business consultant, delivered the keynote address as special guest speaker. He spoke eloquently on the importance of customer service as a key component of trust building between healthcare provider and customer.
The big winner for the night was Tawam Hospital, managed by Johns Hopkins Medicine International, which won four awards. These included Business Entity of the Year for the top performing hospital overall, the Executive Leadership Award for CEO Gregory Schaeffer, Operational Leadership Award for COO Steven Matarelli, Financial Leadership Award for CFO Saeed Al Kuwaiti, and Facilities Management Leadership Award for Facility Director Hamad Al Ahbabi. The runners-up in each category were Al Rahba Hospital; Ron Lavater, CEO at Corniche Hospital; Hal Chilton, COO at Mafraq; Jim Patla, DCFO at Al Rahba Hospital; and Khamis Al Murar Director, Facilities Management of Gharbia Hospital. Al Rahba is also managed by Johns Hopkins Medicine International, while Mafraq is managed by Bumrungrad International and Gharbia is managed internally by SEHA.
Judy Lee, Chief Medical Officer at Corniche Hospital, also managed by Johns Hopkins, won the Medical and Quality Leadership Award, while Dr. Zuhair Afaneh of Al Gharbia Hospitals was runner-up.
Mohamed Salem Al Hameli, Chief Information Officer from Ambulatory Healthcare Services won the Technology Leadership Award for the second year in a row, as did Gail Smith, Chief Nursing Officer of Mafraq Hospital in the category of Nursing and Clinical Administration Leadership. Taylor Carter, CNO, Al Rahba, and Jeffrey Butts, CIO, Al Rahba, were runners-up.
The Support Services Leadership Award went to Paul Martin, Sr. Director Human Resources, Corniche Hospital. The runner-up was Sultan Al Nuaimi, Human Resources Director at Sheikh Khalifa Medical City.
One of the most important awards of the night went to Ms. Zulaikah Al Hosani, Acting Director of Nursing , Mafraq Hospital in the category of Rising Star. This award is granted to the Emirati who shows the most promise in leadership and management potential and is considered a key prospect for growth.
Winners not only receive the recognition of their peers, but also a trophy and cash bonus. Employees at the business entity of the year are awarded a paid day off on their birthdays for the next two years.
The SEHA Circle of ExcellenceSM is held annually at the end of the third quarter. Nominations are based on achievement of business goals and KPI targets in the SEHA 5 Year Strategic Plan.
