US Ambassador to the UAE Michael H. Corbin will visit ALHOSN University’s American Corner tomorrow (Thursday, October 27) to bring ALHOSN’s week-long Breast Cancer Awareness (BCA) program to a close. The occasion will also mark the Ambassador’s first visit to the Corner since his arrival to the Emirates in August this year.
Ambassador Corbin will join other high-ranking officials in helping raise more attention to breast cancer, which has become the third leading cause of death in the UAE and yet is largely unfamiliar to the local female population. ALHOSN University is coordinating with Pink Caravan, a partner organization of the Friends of Cancer Patients Society, and Tawam Hospital to provide free medical examinations and mammograms as part of its awareness campaign.
Highlights of ALHOSN University’s BCA Week include book and bake sales, a charity bazaar, a documentary film, survivor’s talk and a Pink Ribbon cake ceremony. Proceeds from all charitable activities will be donated to Pink Caravan.
ALHOSN University’s Breast Cancer Awareness Week will run from October 23 to 27, 2011. All residents of Abu Dhabi are invited to attend the events. Women who want to have free mammograms (9:00 am – 3:00 pm) are advised to bring their passport and residence copy or their Emirates ID and two copies of their medical insurance. Medical screenings will be available between 10:30 am – 3:00 pm.
