SEHA Announces That Bumrungrad International Will Not Renew The Contract For Management Services Of Mafraq Hospital Effective 31st Of December 2011
(22 October 2011)
Top Asian management firm and healthcare operator will refocus on its core market in Thailand

Abu Dhabi Health Services Company PJSC (SEHA) today announced that Bumrungrad International Limited (BIL), the international affiliate company of Bumrungrad Hospital PCL, the owner and operator of Bumrungrad Hospital in Bangkok, will not pursue renewal of its management contract of Mafraq Hospital in Abu Dhabi.  Bumrungrad will be concentrating for the time being on its core business operations in Thailand.

“Bumrungrad has been a steadfast and faithful partner of SEHA since July 2007, “said H.E. Saif Bader Al Qubaisi.  “They have made great progress in helping Mafraq move towards world-class healthcare delivery.  We thank them for their partnership and support of our mission and vision.  The door will always be open to partners like BIL.”

Dennis Brown, Chief Executive Officer for BIL said, “We have enjoyed our partnership with SEHA these past four years.  Our board has made a decision not to pursue business outside of our core market at this time.  Accordingly, we will not pursue a renewal of the agreement. The change in management will have no effect on SEHA patients or staff at the hospital or clinics associated with the hospital we intend to make the transition as seamless and transparent as possible for all parties.”

“I am confident this transition will occur without any patient services disruptions,” said Carl Stanifer, CEO for SEHA Corporate.  Bumrungrad runs a tight ship and the hospital is in prime condition.  For the patient and the average employee, there will be no change in the daily routine. We intend to make this as pain free as possible for everyone.

Under SEHA ownership and BIL Management, Mafraq has made great strides towards being a world-class healthcare institution in the Middle East.  Mafraq recently won the Sheikh Khalifa Diamond Award in Healthcare and its Ambassadors Customer Service program was recently awarded the International Business Award 2011 as Customer Service Team of the Year in the Middle East.  Mafraq will soon pursue Joint Commission International Accreditation, the Gold Standard of Quality Assurance in healthcare. SEHA already boasts JCI accreditation at five of its other hospitals and many of its clinics and ancillary operations.

The hospital was built, and opened, in 1983 as the largest tertiary referral treatment hospital in the United Arab Emirates at the time. Mafraq Hospital remains a tertiary hospital with 451 licensed beds and services include medicine, obstetrics, pediatrics, as well as surgical and critical care services that support the trauma program. Mafraq Hospital operates the largest burn unit in the country and is a Center of Excellence for ENT and Thoracic surgery. The hospital also operates two primary healthcare clinics at Bani Yas and Al Nahda.  A new Mafraq Hospital is rising from a construction site on the Mafraq property.  It will be larger and more modern than the current facility and is scheduled to open in 2014.
