The week-long campaign of Sheikh Khalifa Medical City (SKMC) to raise awareness on Breast Cancer is ending tomorrow.
The campaign was organized by a multi disciplinary team of SKMC’s Infusion Center and the Radiology Department targeting all SKMC female staff and visitors. Female staffs over 40 years of age were offered a complimentary mammogram at SKMC’s Radiology Department.
The campaign program included different activities in addition to the free mammogram. Physicians gave scientific lectures to staff; small educational booths were arranged inside the campus of SKMC, where brochures and educational materials and gifts were distributed.
Commenting on the breast cancer awareness campaign, Dr. Jeff Staples, CEO of SKMC stated, "This is a great initiative that SKMC management encourages. We are pleased to take part of the nation-wide efforts to raise awareness on early detection of breast cancer." "At SKMC, we offer a comprehensive array of technologies for the early diagnosis and treatment of breast cancer. Our physicians and healthcare professionals aim to continuously promote the importance of early detection to reduce their risk of developing the disease," Dr. Staples added.
Dr Atul Mehta, Chief Medical Officer at SKMC said, "For many women, breast cancer is the most frightening disease of all - primarily because there isn’t so much that women can do to prevent it. However, we would like women to learn through such health awareness campaigns that there is plenty that can be done to optimize their overall health and improve their odds against breast cancer especially early detection."
