Total non-oil foreign merchandise trade through the ports of the emirate of Abu Dhabi in 2010 amounted to AED 109.2 billion in 2010, compared with AED 112.1 billion in 2009, according to the annual statistical report released by Statistics Centre - Abu Dhabi (SCAD).
It added the decline of 2.6 per cent in 2010 can be attributed to the value of imports which fell from AED 93.9 billion to AED 86.6 billion or by 7.8 per cent. By contrast, the total non-oil exports increased by 22.2 per cent in 2010 compared with 2009 SCAD’s repot provides an analysis of the annual foreign trade data of the Emirate of Abu Dhabi, to serve the needs of planners, policy makers, researchers, etc, and provide them with the figures they need on the topics of imports, exports and re-exports.
These figures are presented in an aggregated form to show the movement of trade through the ports/customs posts of Abu Dhabi, with the exception of oil. The analysis shows trends in the movement of commodity import, export and re-exports in 2010 compared to 2009, to highlight the changes that have occurred between the two years compared.
Statistics Centre - Abu Dhabi notes that the report presents a detailed analysis of the data in accordance with international standards for the dissemination of foreign trade statistics, based on the classifications developed and recommended by the World Customs Organization and the United Nations, and displays the non-oil exports, imports and re-exports, according to the fourth revision of the Standard International Trade Classification (SITC4), in addition to distributions by broad economic categories, methods of transport, geographical regions and countries.
Total non-oil foreign merchandise trade The report reveals that the total value of non-oil foreign merchandise trade through the ports of Abu Dhabi in this bulletin represents the combined value of non-oil exports, re-exports and imports.

The contribution of imports to total foreign merchandise trade decreased from 83.8 per cent in 2009 to 79.3 per cent in 2010, the lowest percentage contribution since 2005 and also remained below the ten year average rate of 85.0 per cent. By contrast, the share of total non-oil exports increased from 16.2 per cent in 2009 to 20.7 per cent in 2010.
