Abu Dhabi National Insurance Company (ADNIC), a leading insurance company in the UAE, and Yas Marina Circuit, today announced the UAE Red Crescent as the Official Charity of the ADNIC Yas Run 2011, taking place on November 26th at Yas Marina Circuit.
20 per cent of all registration fees will automatically be donated to the UAE Red Crescent’s Project of Heart Disease’s Friends, which provides free medical care for patients with heart disease. Participants are also being encouraged to raise funds for the project individually.
To be held just two weeks after the 2011 Formula 1TM Etihad Airways Abu Dhabi Grand Prix, the ADNIC Yas Run is set to become a major community running event which promotes fitness and well-being. Abu Dhabi Sports Council, the Official Government Partner of the event, is providing 400 free places in each the 3km race for children aged between 12 and 15 years and in the 1km run for children aged between 8 and 11 years.
Participants also have the option of registering for the internationally certified 10km run as an individual or in a team relay, allowing runners of all abilities to join in.
Walid Sidani, Chief Executive Officer of ADNIC, said: “It is an honour to announce the UAE Red Crescent as the official charity of the inaugural ADNIC Yas Run.”
“It is befitting that the ADNIC brand is associated with an event which seeks to enhance and improve the health of our nation. Running is a great way to stay fit and prevent heart disease; sport has a very positive role to play in the local community.”
“Through this partnership we hope to generate significant funds to aid the wonderful work carried by the UAE Red Crescent.”
Those participating in the 10km and 3km events will start from the official F1 starting grid before finishing under the chequered flag. All runners will be issued with timing chips to receive their official race time as there will be category prizes for the individual events as well as for the first three people to cross the finish line.
Richard Cregan, Chief Executive Officer of Yas Marina Circuit commented, “Whilst Yas Marina Circuit is recognized as a state of the art motorsports venue, it is much more than that, it is a place for the community. We look forward to the contrast between F1 cars and thousands of people crossing the finish line. We are happy to be hosting a fun event for the community, while also supporting a worthwhile cause like the UAE Red Crescent.”
Registration is now open for the ADNIC Yas Run 2011. The 400 free places for the 1km and 3km races are allocated on a first come first serve basis by calling 800 YAS (927). Participants for the 10km and Team Relay can register at www.adnicyasrun.ae where they can also access running programmes designed to aid beginners in their training ahead of the event.
The ADNIC Yas Run is a joint initiative by Yas Marina Circuit and Professional Sports Group, who will manage the sporting operations on the day. The race has been fully supported throughout by ADNIC.
