Abu Dhabi Education Council Participates At Gitex 2011 For The First Time
(9 October 2011)

The Abu Dhabi Education Council (ADEC) is displaying some of its latest information and communication technology (ICT) initiatives for the first time at Gitex Technology Week. ADEC has worked tediously, since its initiation in 2005, to develop and enforce an ICT development plan that caters to its school students in the Emirate of Abu Dhabi.

Despite its new presence in the market, ADEC has set up an ambitious 10-year-strategy plan which aims to establish a strong educational framework in par with some of the best international educational institutes in the world.

"Now that ADEC has proven its international ICT prominence, we are more than ready to showcase some of the latest tailor made ICT solutions, some of which have been programmed, implemented and designed by our own ADEC staff," said H.E. Dr. Mugheer Khamis Al Khaili, Director General at ADEC.

ADEC, for the first time, will display some of its newly inaugurated applications during the one week exhibition, some of which includes: Geographic Information System (GIS), the Electronic Student Information System (eSIS), and Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) - which assist with school administration, financial functions and daily school record keeping.

After being recognized at the GIS awards ceremony in March 2010, as the "best GIS implementation for business support" for their interactive GIS portal which allows ADEC users to find public and private schools based on different criteria, ADEC decided to go a few steps further and include other users such as parents and students, who can now access ADEC’s GIS portal using iPad and iPhone technologies.

"Users can gain instant access of an interactive map which displays various school locations and nearby medical facilities. They can generate dynamic and comparative reports on school profiles and teacher/student statistics. School staff can also compare students test scores in their own school against average performance levels."

"GIS can also assist in automated student enrollment taking into account school location and capacity, while keeping into consideration school bus routes and important safety issues. The portal has a high capacity to store information, data and documents while ensuring privacy and security are maintained," said Dr. Alaaeldin Aly, Division Director, Knowledge Management, Office of Strategic Affairs, ADEC.

ADEC’s Electronic Student Information System (eSIS), an essential assistant module that can be accessed by teachers, administrators, students and parents helps parents register their children in new schools while avoiding duplication, as well as allows them to view their child’s school records (attendance, grades, examination results, activities, etc).

ADEC has also introduced other E-learning initiatives that allow students to perform on-line tests, examinations and homework, all part of ADEC’s mission to ease the educational structure for all those concerned.

"ADEC looks forward to setting the example for other educational institutes across the Middle East. We realize that education requires modernization and institutional change, which can only happen through learning from other successful ICT and educational success stories which we look forward to hearing about during Gitex," concluded Dr. Al Khaili.
