Sheikh Hamdan bin Mubarak Al Nahyan, Minister of Public Works, Chairman of the National Transport Authority today inaugurated the 15th GCC Ministerial meeting on Transport here at the Emirates Palace Hotel.
In his opening speech, Sheikh Hamdan welcomed the GCC Ministers of Transport and wished them success in their meeting.
The meeting will discuss many topics on the agenda including a number of issues related to road and rail transport and marine activities including linking the railways among GCC countries.
For his part, the GCC Secretary General Dr. Abdullatif Bin Rashid Az-Zayani thanked President His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President, Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai, Their Highnesses Presidents and Leaders of GCC states and Sheikh Hamdan bin Mubarak Al Nahyan for their continuous support for joint GCC work in various fields.
He added that the bloc has struggled over the past years to achieve a sustainable development and integrated in all areas of the region for the good of human progress and prosperity and the member states have established Customs Union, which aims to free trade between the GCC states, which has grown over the years by up to 20 percent annually.
Az-Zayani concluded by pointing out that the Member States have agreed on a timetable for the preparation of a detailed engineering designs for the GCC Railway project by 2012 and for the implementation of the integrated project by 2017.
