The Right Honorable Gordon Brown MP, former Prime Minister of the United Kingdom and a Distinguished Global Leader in Residence at New York University, will participate in a public event sponsored by New York University Abu Dhabi (NYUAD) Institute titled “What the Global Economy Needs.” The event will take place at Manarat Al Saadiyat in Abu Dhabi on Sunday, October 9, from 6:30-8:30pm.
Brown, who authored the book Beyond the Crash: Overcoming the First Crisis of Globalisation, will speak on the global financial crisis, including his views on how the collapse occurred, and what can and should be done to create global conditions for greater stability and prosperity.
Brown will answer questions from the Dean of the Stern School of Business at NYU, Peter Henry, a leading economist and financial observer, before taking questions from the audience.
Reindert Falkenburg, NYUAD’s vice provost for intellectual and cultural outreach, said: “We welcome Gordon Brown back for his second NYUAD Institute lecture this year. Judging from his lecture in Abu Dhabi this February, we are anticipating that he will provide an honest and insightful window into the thoughts and decisions of our global leaders during a pivotal moment in our economic history.”
Brown is a former leader of the British Labour Party, and served as Prime Minister of the UK from 2007 to 2010. Previously he had served as Chancellor of the Exchequer in the Labour Government from 1997 to 2007. In his new role as Distinguished Global Leader in Residence at NYU, Brown will spend time each year at NYU Abu Dhabi, NYU New York, and at other sites throughout the school’s global network, delivering a series of lectures, and more broadly, engaging the community in an ongoing dialogue focused on the creation of a global civil society.
