Abu Dhabi Health Services Company (SEHA) has announced the launching of its first massive educational and academic emergency and disaster preparedness program to all SEHA health facilities and SEHA Home Office, 1000 employees from all level of care and disciplines demonstrating a genuine breakthrough in investment in people initiative. The program, which is in collaboration with EMDM Academy aims at enhancing the capacity and capability of SEHA employees in a standardized and integrated approach.
The one year program, will contribute in strengthening the hospital’s emergency services delivered to the society, and will assure progressive, stable, and sustainable preparedness index demonstrated via enrolling average of 40% of nationals among the targeted trainees across the system while adopting evidence based best practices. Also, the initiative enables a breakthrough opportunity of collaboration and synergy across all involved stakeholders at large in the Emirate of Abu Dhabi, by extending the possibility of knowledge transfer on measurable and structured manner as an integral module of the project.
EMDM Academy will develop and implement a comprehensive training program that will provide the participants with the basic and essential knowledge, skills and attitudes to immediately deliver lifesaving care to all patients in need of urgent or emergent care. Also, the program will help in maximizing the use of resources in mass casualty incidents and disaster situations, and will improve the quality, efficiency, effectiveness of response, preparedness, recovery, and care delivered by the hospital’s staff.
“The management of the medical effects of a disaster is one of the most difficult tasks to be performed by medical personnel,” says Khalifa Al Ketbi, SEHA Deputy Chief of Operations. “Specific knowledge, the ability to plan and organize a health system, professional skill and the adaptation to the disaster situation are required to provide the highest quality of medical care in an austere environment.”
“Many recurring difficulties that plague the medical response in disasters are due to insufficient education and training, minimal understanding of the medical disaster plans, procedures and protocols, and the limited levels of skill and experience of the responsible personnel. An appropriate education and training in all aspects of disaster medicine is essential for planners, key personnel and all those involved in the disaster medical and health response in order to deliver the highest standards of healthcare services,” he added.
SEHA aims goes beyond the limits of this project by established the solid platform for further academic education and research in this strategic field while providing the best health care services at the highest standards in line with its belief in the need for continuously improving the health of citizens, who are the building blocks of the nation. As such, SEHA spares no effort in providing treatment services for all citizens wherever they are, through its hospitals and clinics. SEHA’s main objective is to ensure patient safety and build patient trust in the healthcare system in addition to developing the infrastructure required to achieve world class standards for healthcare delivery.
