Yas Links Sponsors Golf Hopefuls During Inaugural MENA Golf Tour
(27 September 2011)

Yas Links Abu Dhabi is sponsoring two Professionals during the maiden Middle East and North Africa (MENA) Golf Tour, the first of its kind in the region.

Chris Chamberlain, PGA Golf Professional and PGA Teaching Professional at one of the UK’s most famous golf clubs, The Belfry, and Scottish PGA Golf Professional, Greg Nicholson, are among 72 professionals and amateurs representing 28 countries who will take part in the four events.

The Tour comprises back-to-back tournaments at Saadiyat Golf Club in Abu Dhabi, Tower Links Golf Club in Ras Al Khaimah, Al Badia Golf Club in Dubai and Al Ain Golf & Equestrian Club between September 25 and October 19, 2011.

Commenting on the sponsorship, Chris White, General Manager of Aldar Properties (Golf Division), developer of Yas Links, said: “In Chris and Greg we have two distinguished brand ambassadors who are eager to tackle the different events on the MENA Golf Tour.”

Over the next six weeks, Chris and Greg will be found practising at Yas Links, taking on the Middle East’s first links course and using the club’s top of the range amenities, which include a world-class floodlit driving range, a nine-hole par three course, and a short-game chipping and bunker practice area.

“We are certain the course will live up to its expectations and present Chris and Greg with a true test of golf,” added Steve Morgan, Head Professional at Yas Links. “Our latest investment in our practice facilities will provide the all-important training ground for the pair to fine-tune their shots and hone their skills.”

Chris White continued: “We wish them both the best of luck and hope to see them succeed in the inaugural MENA Golf Tour.”

The MENA Golf Tour is a new initiative from the Sheikh Maktoum Golf Federation, supported by both the Arab Golf Federation and the R&A, golf’s governing body. It is designed to help golfers from the UAE and other Arab countries progress to the next level by providing them with the opportunity to test themselves against the best MENA professional and amateur players, as well as opponents from around the world.

The Tour boasts a combined prize fund of US$225,000 for Professionals and carries valuable World Amateur Ranking points – a unique feature positioning it at the pinnacle of competitive golf in the Middle East and North Africa region.

The top three Professionals and the leading amateur from the Order of Merit will receive special invitations to compete in the 2012 Omega Dubai Desert Classic and, possibly, other Tour events in the region.

The first event at the Saadiyat Beach Golf Club will be followed by the Ras Al Khaimah Classic at the Tower Links Golf Club (Oct 2 to 5), the Shaikh Maktoum Dubai Open at Al Badia Golf Club (Oct 9 to 12) and the MENA Tour Championship at Al Ain Equestrian, Shooting and Golf (Oct 16 to 19).
