(8 September 2011)
Move Part Of Strategy Of Sustainable Human Capital Development In Healthcare

SEHA, the Abu Dhabi Health Services Company, is contributing to the development of sustainable human capital involving UAE nationals through an internship programme that is currently serving as an incubator to 75 Emiratis. Another 56 Emiratis who have already completed their internships will enter accredited residency programs for specialist training.

The aim of these programmes is to employ and train UAE nationals right here in their home country, offering them the professional development usually available only outside the UAE.

“SEHA is building a sustainable, healthcare system where UAE nationals assume a larger role in healthcare delivery and are supported in professional development along the way so they can contribute to healthcare needs in the country. SEHA’s internship programme helps incubate UAE nationals to the point they become able additions to the healthcare workforce in various specializations,” said Madiha Al Marzouqi, Head of recruitment and manpower planning section, Human Resources Department, at SEHA. “SEHA is dedicated to becoming an employer of choice for UAE nationals, and increasing the number of Emiratis in the healthcare sector.”

Post residency, candidates can either start practicing general medicine or apply for a four year higher education program to specialize in a specific branch of medicine.

In cooperation with various parties, SEHA also offers scholarships to undergraduate and graduate UAE national medical students to deepen the pool of skilled candidates in healthcare. 23 candidates were sent abroad to study further specializations and reached 33 in 2010. The company has developed a unified plan to attract, develop and retain UAE nationals employees in all departments and facilities, and is taking a distinct approach to sustainable development of the workforce in the UAE’s healthcare sector.
