A team from the Grand Millennium Al Wahda hotel, part of the Millennium & Copthorne hotel group, has come together to become permanent volunteers for the Red Crescent. The Grand Millennium Al Wahda team’s first event was volunteering at two charity Iftars this week distributing food and drinks to at the Hilal Tent and the Sheikh Khalifa Bin Zayed Tent in Abu Dhabi.
Under the moniker ‘GMAW Care’, the team aims to continue this volunteering initiative by lending a helping hand on a monthly basis. Members of GMAW Care are drawn from across the hotel with colleagues coming from every department.
Sanja Vecanski, Marketing Executive at the Grand Millennium Al Wahda, said that:
“Seeing how happy all the people at the Iftar were brought a smile to all the volunteers’ faces and as a result of that I think we have all come away feeling more positive today. Being able to give back to the community together with my colleagues and with the support of the hotel has been a great bonding experience for us all. I am looking forward to continuing our support for the Red Crescent and doing as much as possible for those who are less fortunate than us.”
Michael Sorgenfrey, General Manager at Grand Millennium Al Wahda, added:
“At the Grand Millennium Al Wahda we place high value on giving back to the community. I am very proud that my staff have come together in this way to volunteer for the Red Crescent.”
The Grand Millennium Al Wahda also recently held a collection drive for countries in Africa affected by drought as part of World Humanitarian Day, with staff donating clothes, books and toys. Boxes in the staff cafeteria were filled to the brim with donations and were then taken to the relevant embassies.
