UAE Events Industry Prepares For Post- Ramadan Schedule
(29 August 2011)

The UAE’s thriving event management industry, which attracted more than 5 million visitors in 2010, is once again a flurry of activity as it prepares for a slew of activities expected to kick off immediately after Ramadan.

With Eid round the corner, event management companies have activated a series of events and activities aimed to capture the attention of consumers and businesses in the region. From concerts to sport tournaments, from business events to exhibitions, from arts and music festivals to high profile MICE events, the multi-million dollar events industry is steadily coming out of its hibernation.

First off are the retail events and music concerts celebrating Eid, followed by the year’s biggest trade shows, GITEX Technology Week and GITEX Shopper, which traditionally see thousands of technology and participating companies descending on Dubai in October. Other shows such as 5th Abu Dhabi Film Festival (October), the Middle East International Motor Show, Big 5 Show and Dubai Air Show (all in November), and the Dubai International Film Festival (December) have become immensely popular across the globe.

Dulsco, which supports the region’s event industry by providing skilled and semi-skilled blue collar manpower, says that the busy activity in the event management sector is good news for supporting businesses. The company has said that event organizers are constantly seeking temporary manpower such as drivers, helpers, carpenters, electricians and other handy men to complete their projects on time.

“The UAE has an impressive calendar of activities to engage all business sectors and consumers,” says Balakumar, Director, Dulsco HR Solutions. “While the events are well-attended and require attention to detail, event organizers are constantly racing against time and are seeking additional hands on board to manage their large-scale projects successfully.”

The supply of temporary manpower to the events industry alone accounted for an approximate 10 per cent of Dulsco’s manpower business in 2010. Balakumar expects that number to rise exponentially this year due to the bi-annual events such as the Dubai Air Show 2011 and strong demand from the rapidly growing event management industry in Abu Dhabi.

“Dulsco provides its manpower for events in prestigious venues such as Abu Dhabi National Exhibitions Company (ADNEC), which held over 148 events last year attracting 1 million visitors, and to the Dubai International Exhibition Centre and the Airport Expo,” Balakumar said. “We have also invested in ensuring that our people are fully trained to meet the ever-changing demands of this niche industry.”
