SCAD Releases Monthly Building Materials Report In Abu Dhabi

Statistics Centre - Abu Dhabi (SCAD) issued its monthly report on the prices of building materials for the month of July 2011. The report presents an analysis of the movements in the prices of the various materials used in the construction industry in Abu Dhabi market during July 2011.

The dissemination of the report, which presents a wide range of price data, is intended to serve the needs of data users in the public and private sectors in research, planning and decision making in ways that support the construction sector, besides related and dependent sectors.

Statistics center-Abu Dhabi (SCAD) was established in 2008 in accordance with Law No. (7), to develop and organize statistical work in the Emirate of Abu Dhabi in particular and the United Arab Emirates in general.

As SCAD’s report reveals, the average prices of several building materials groups have undergone various changes during July compared with June 2011, with the largest rise recorded in the average price of the "Aggregates and Sand" group, which climbed 17.7 percent in July 2011, as all items within this group registered price increases in the range of 11.1 - 23.1 per cent. The next largest rise was in the average price of cement, which grew 8.1 percent, reflecting an increase of 15.8 percent in the price per ton of Al Etihad White Cement/UAE.

On the other hand the prices of "UPVC pipes" and "Paints" declined by 6.6 percent and 5.8 percent, respectively.

SCAD’s report also reviews changes in building materials prices in July 2011 compared with July 2010, with the "Aggregates and Sand" group showing the largest rise (52.8 percent) between the periods compared, followed by the prices of "Power cable", which shot up 44.7 per cent as a result of a sharp rise of 66.9 per cent in the price of "CU 132kv/ 1*800 mm?". In addition, "Transport Equipment" rents advanced by 37.6 per cent and "Wires for Residential Towers" by 25.2 per cent.

In contrast, the prices of the "Glass" group fell by 33.1 per cent as a result of a decrease in the price of "Glass/6mm/m2/ Saudi Arabia" by 42.9 per cent and "Mirror Glass/4 mm/m2/Saudi Arabia" by 39.2 per cent.

SCAD’s monthly report of building materials prices report surveys the prices of 21 groups of commodities and services that represent the most important materials used in the construction activity, including cement, aggregate, sand, wood, steel, concrete and cement blocks.

SCAD has published this report since 2008. The report data are collected by the Centre’s field staff on a monthly basis, in line with the directives of the emirate’s leadership for the development of economic sectors and support of their stability in all areas of interest to decision makers, policy planners and researchers.

SCAD’s Building Materials Price Statistics for August 2011 will be released on 20 September 2011.
